버들강네 퍼시벌은 아둔 시 동부 할렘의 그저그런 탐험가 중 한 명이었다. 하지만 아둔 시의 추락에서 퍼시벌의 용기와 결단은 무려 백 여명의 사람을 구해냈다. 그 수는 추락에서 살아남은 사람 대부분을 차지한다. 이제 동굴사회는 퍼시벌을 위대한 영웅으로 칭송한다.
퍼시벌은 추락에서 얻은 심한 상처 때문에 그의 부리를 제거하고 마스크를 써야 했지만, 그에게 이깟 상실은 아무것도 아니었다.
영웅이 되기 위해선 자신에게 가장 소중한 존재를 잃어야 함을, 퍼시벌은 깨닫게 되었다.
